Just a Little Sad

It's difficult to write when things are'nt going the way I want them to.  In the past two weeks I have gained 2.2lbs.  In spite of having increased my exercise and continuing to watch what I eat ( though not perfect about it).  I can accept that I can stay the same, but gain?  Really?  At times I just want to cry about it.  Perhaps that would burn a few more calories?  It is a struggle and it is hard and many times saddening.
Many years ago my young nephew Jerry and I were at a drug store.  He wanted me to buy him a pack of gum and I told him no.  He told me that in that case he was going to have to be sad and I told him okay he would just have to be sad.  I think this is one of those times in my life when I will just be a little sad.  Carole

  1. Hi! I know this has been said before, but have you considered muscle weight gain? That could be a factor. And you should be so proud of yourself for working so hard! There will be setbacks. When I was losing weight I would only weight myself once a month, that way seemed the most accurate. Just MHO. Keep up the good work!

  2. Stick to it! Don't let it discourage you. Over time you might see certain patterns in your weight loss, or see things that affect your weight on a day to day basis. For me, one thing I found is that I gain as much as three pounds around the time that I ovulate. Sometimes those extra pounds come off easy afterward, sometimes they don't. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health and can also affect weight loss. Have you been stressed? Stress can also add pounds even when you're doing well with eating and exercising.

So anyway, don't give up! Just push through. Everyone who is on a weight loss journey has these days, so at least know that you're not alone.

    Good luck to you!

  4. I think a weight-watchers type program is a great way to go, but it can be frustrating at first. Because you're changing your lifestyle permanently, and not just doing a crazy diet for a few months, the way you adapt to it is completely different. I wouldn't worry about gaining a little weight right now - just try to do a tiny bit better every week in how you eat and exercise and live.

Case in point: about 6 months ago I realized I didn't want to support factory farming anymore. So at first I stopped buying non-organic milk, then cheese and butter, and then farmed meat/chicken. But it took me another couple of months to stop eating out (since that contains the bad stuff, but it's easier to ignore). Then it took me *another* couple of months to stop buying non-organic processed food, like cookies and whatnot (since that contains the bad milk too, but it's *really* easy to ignore).

I guess what I'm saying is, this is not something you are going to give up on today or next week or next year. You're changing the way you live in a fundamental way, so give yourself some time to adjust.

Also, when I did a similar program last year, it took me 4 months to lose 15 lb. The first month I lost nothing, but I slowly started eating more and more fiber and whole foods, and walking a little farther each day, and eventually it worked.

    You'll make it! Good luck.
